Composer Sophie Mathieu writes music that explores the concepts of vastness, timelessness, intimacy, and ethereality. She loves gradual changes and timbral grey-areas. A few highlights of her career so far include performances with yMusic, Roomful of Teeth, and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Sophie holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Southern California and will begin seeking a Master of Music in Composition from the University of Texas at Austin in Fall 2020.
Sophie plays cello and several baroque and renaissance string instruments, appearing frequently in various performances at USC and in the Los Angeles area. During her time at USC, she was the president and principal conductor of Concerto Chamber Orchestra, USC’s student-led orchestra.
