String Quartet Smackdown Video Transcript

[BACKGROUND STRING QUARTET MUSIC STARTS]

(Male Speaker) I've never experienced anything like this.

[MUSIC CONTINUES]

(Male Speaker) When I heard that the winner was going to be chosen by a live audience, yes it was a little bit nerve-racking.

[AUDIENCE APPLAUSE]

[STRING QUARTET MUSIC CONTINUES]

[SUDDEN SILENCE]

[PLUCK]

[GONG CRASH]

(Female Speaker) Text in your vote; you've got 45 seconds to do it from when [VERBAL AUDIENCE EXCITEMENT] the gong gets hit.

(Female Speaker) This is a close one.

(Female Audience Member) This is my first time at the String Quartet Smackdown.

(Helen Lundy) It was so fun. It was such an interactive and exciting experience; it was really fun to be so involved in the process.

(Male Speaker) Tonight, when I got knocked out in the first round,

(John Mills) after my piece went by I heard that the first three seconds of the next piece, and I thought I'm toast. It's always fun. You always hear a lot of great music. I aspire to come back and lose again in the near future.

[VIOLIN CROAKING]

(Wendy Hymes) The live participation aspect is so fun so innovative. I love the format - how you just bring the whole audience in. You don't have to be an expert in any kind of classical music to enjoy this event.

[CLIMAX OF A PIECE & AUDIENCE CLAPPING]

(Graham Reynolds) We have two more so I don't need the gong anymore because we're just gonna play all the way through. So he can ... let's get rid of this.

[GONG CRASHES ONTO THE FLOOR]

(Fred) It's a fantastic fantastic opportunity, really. They were all beautiful pieces; all of them were just fantastic compositions.

[STRING QUARTET MUSIC CONTINUES]

[VERBAL AUDIENCE EXCITEMENT]

(Graham Reynolds) Three ... Two ... One ...

(Female Speaker) The Last Dance is the winner.

[AUDIENCE CLAPPING]

(Wendy Hymes) I have never been to an event like this before, so original. Bravo.

(Graham Reynolds Speaking) Thank you so much for coming. This is String Quartet Smackdown 5. This is Invoke, we're Golden Hornet, thank you.
